I'm also compelled to write because I love to write. It's something I've enjoyed since high school (which was a very, very long time ago!) and even in college. My poor husband has never understood how I saw a five to ten page paper as an "easy" assignment! In any case, here's the deal when it comes to homeschool mommas. It is so easy to get swept away in schooling our children, managing a home, and shuffling kids between dentist appointments, the ball fields and a hundred other things that we can loose our identity... and our dreams. Yes, we are called to love and serve our families and to do so sacrificially. Yes, being a mom rightly means putting off personal desires and goals for a season. But being a self made martyr doesn't make me or you any better of a mom or teacher. In my observation it can have the opposite effect: I become more irritable and less endearing! So stop putting yourself through the guilt trip, thinking that somehow you are less godly, less loving or completely selfish if you choose to invest some time into things you enjoy. Spend time reading for pleasure, sew or craft like you use to, take up a new hobby, finish your college degree... anything that makes you feel refreshed and helps retain the small measure of sanity you have left. Don't let go of that dream!
Do you have any dreams you've put on hold? What do you hope to accomplish one day when all the littles are grown and gone? I'd love to hear from your heart in the comments below!
