Can you believe Christmas Day is only six weeks from today? SIX WEEKS! And in between is Thanksgiving, school, laundry, two birthdays, all the holiday activities, and life in general. So as soon as I received an email for a free download of "Well Planned Holidays" from the fabulous folks over at HEDUA, I jumped on it! (This is the same company that produces the very awesome "Well Planned Day" homeschool planner that I use every year.) Normally the holiday planner retails for $20, but it is completely free for a limited time. So head over and take advantage of their offer. You'll have to create an account and fill out information as if you were making a purchase, but you will not be required to enter any payment information. ENJOY!
This has been one l-o-n-g week; I'm so happy to see Friday! My week has proved to frustrating and less than productive due to my knee injury last Friday. But just in time for the new school year is this lovely bible-based handwriting curriculum. This is a limited time offer, August 6th - 15th only. Also check out the section: "Bible Based Freebies for you".
Enjoy the weekend!
I'm not quite sure what happened. The last time I checked, we were just starting July and suddenly, August has come barging in! With the new school year is quickly approaching, today's freebie is perfect timing. The Home Education Council of America is hosting its "Not Back to School Summit: A Celebration of Freedom". Including more than 50 free workshops and seminars, along with great prizes, it's all free and all online. So come join the fun!
This is the most awesome website *ever* for generating printable math worksheets! In addition, you can also print flash cards, graph paper, hundreds charts, Venn diagrams, and so much more! Covering math topics that stretch from simple addition to algebra and geometry, this website has it covered. So whether you want to increase your student's math fluency or provide additional practice on a particular math concept, this website has it all.
I'm fairly certain that I have shared a link to a similar talk by Andrew Pudewa, but I'm sharing today's free audio link, entitled "Freedomship Education", because it has been an extremely influential force in shaping my homeschool philosophy. Initially I heard Andrew share this speech live at the NCHE homeschool conference in May. It was so profound and thought provoking that I purchased the CD to listen to again. Whether you're just beginning your homeschool adventure or have trod the path many years, I challenge you to grab a cup of coffee, invest an hour of your time, and listen to the truths that Andrew shares.
Happy Independence Day!
Today's freebie is a recording of a webinar titled "Is Your Homeschool Firmly Planted?" by Heidi St. James (TheBusyMom) and Andrew Pudewa (Institute for Excellence in Writing).
If you want to download and print the slides from the talk, you can do so here.
Enjoy your day today and remember to pause and give thanks to the Lord for the freedom we have in this country, as well as the many, both past and present, who have sacrificed a great deal to protect that freedom!
Since my last blog post was about the power of memorization, I felt it appropriate to offer you some resources to help increase your student's math fluency. Mastery of basic math facts is crucial in the early years so that the mind in then free to work on more difficult math concepts. This has been painfully obvious to me as I've watched my oldest son, trying to tackle pre-algebra, still have to skip count for basic multiplication facts, thus slowing the whole process. So I have returned to heavy drilling.
This website is my favorite for printable math worksheets. The five-minute drill worksheets are what we use almost daily. Another great option for review/drill is math games! Both of these sites are primarily geared for K-6th.
For middle school students, Buzzmath is visually appealing and offers challenging reviews of specific math concepts.
Finally, IXL offers math practice for all grade levels, kindergarten through high school.
The next best thing to free coffee is a free magazine! Read pertinent articles, gather new ideas, and receive encouragement from the folks at The Old Schoolhouse magazine. You can download their free app for iPhone or Android, or read the latest issue on your eReader, tablet or PC. Now you'll always have a good read to enjoy along with your coffee! This link will get you started. Enjoy!
Fridays are my favorite day of the week! During the school year, it signals the survival of another week. During summer break it's double fun, like two scoops of ice cream!
Our friends at Compass Classroom are offering TEN free downloads, including: Latin, poetry, history and economics! If you aren't familiar with this awesome company, started by homeschool dads, spend some time on their site and see all they have to offer. We have personally used Dwayne Thomas' Visual Latin program and my kids loved it!
